Dear Nursing Students,

As conference co-chair and president of CHNIG I am pleased to invite you to participate in the 4th National Community Health Nurses Conference and spread the word with nurses in the Nursing Students of Ontario. We do have a very reasonable student rate.

This year the conference is a collaboration between the Community Health Nurses of Canada (CHNC) and the Community Health Nurses Initiative Group (CHNIG). The conference will be held in Toronto, June 16-18, 2010.

Health care transformation is taking place right now in Ontario in no small part due to the advanced practice role of Nurse Practitioners.  As we move forward with integrating nurse practitioners into our healthcare system, we are still challenged to engage front-line partners, overcome policy barriers and be leaders of the collaboration.

Welcome to 2010 The International Year of the Nurse! This year marks a time when the world will celebrate the International Year of the Nurse, as well as the Centennial of Florence Nightingale (1820 – 1910).

It is also a time to recognize nursing student achievements in promoting health and well-being, and the NSO wants to hear from you!

Students Concerned With Cutting Nursing Care

By Deep Jaiswal In March, the NSO was given a fantastic opportunity to attend and observe an Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) Provincial Coordinators Meeting. One of many issues for discussion, between March 3rd and 5th, included RN hours being cut. Coupled with our current economic situation, the issue has far from left any room for optimism. As Anton Leung, former President of NSO and 4th year nursing student, explained, “it has put a lot of insecurities on how sustainable a nursing career in Ontario would be”.
